PADI Divemaster

To be certified as a Divemaster you must be at least 18 years old with at least 60 logged dives. You must be a Rescue Diver (or equivalent qualification from another agency) with a valid First Aid Certificate (including CPR). You will also need to have a medical certificate signed by a doctor showing that you are fit to dive.

The PADI Divemaster course is a performance-based program, so course duration depends on class size, logistics, and Divemaster candidate performance characteristics. The Divemaster course is divided into three modules: the Knowledge Development Module, the Waterskills and Stamina Module, and the Practical Application Module.
The Knowledge Development Module looks at:

The Waterskills and Stamina Module develops your skill to the role model level appropriate for demonstrating to student divers, and to prepare you should you wish to take your training to an Instructor level. The Stamina Assessment and Development portion evaluates basic swimming skills. During the Diver Rescue Assessment and Development phase, you rescue a simulated unresponsive, no breathing diver. However, this is more than a “test”, it enables you to refine your skills beyond the Rescue Diver level.

In the Confined Water Skill Assessment and Development you will demonstrate the twenty basic scuba skills from the “skill circuit.  In the Practical Application Module you put into practice skills typical of a Divemaster. There are three required training exercises or four practical training exercises which include map making, underwater problem solving, and a Divemaster conducted program.

Once qualified you will become a PADI member and, with the appropriate HSE medical and insurance, the qualification allows you to start gaining a reward from your diving.
