BSAC Sports Diver
The Sport
Diver course naturally builds upon the skills learnt as an Ocean Diver. The
theme of having a sound foundation of open water diving skills and experience
through a series of structured practical lessons is continued, ensuring that
the student has the highest possible ability in skills and knowledge. Once
qualified, you are ready to take part in dives with other Sports Divers or
those of higher grades.
Course Overview
The BSAC Sports Diver Course is divided into the following four sections:
1. Theory Lessons:
There are six Theory lessons.
- Sport Diving
- Diver Rescue
- Equipment and Techniques
- Planning for Deeper Diving
- Air Planning and Systems
- Going Diving
2. Confined Water Training
The emphasis here is on preparing
the student for the open water environment and therefore contain essential
practical skills.
3. Open Water Dives
As with
the other courses, the open water dives provide the student with an opportunity
to put into practice the theory and practical elements learned in the classroom
and sheltered water. In Sports Diver training, the emphasis is on building
a sound foundation of open water diving skill and experience through a series
of four open water experience dives.
- Sports diver refresher / orientation
- Diver rescue
- Use of surface marker buoy (SMB)
- Simulated decompression dive
- Compass navigation / DSMB deployment
- Dive leading / Basic skills review
- Assistant dive marshal
- Diving experience
4. Sports Diver Theory Assessment:
Afraid so! A bit of an exam again, but once passed you are Sports Diver.
